38.5 Tonnes of Aid: The Heaviest Convoy in Initiative E+ History

A few days ago, Initiative E+ received the heaviest convoy in the organisation's history — and we mean this literally, in tonnes. More than 38.5 tonnes of aid arrived from Finland in a single delivery. It's a record set, once again, by our longtime partners — the Finnish team at Karavanen till Ukraina.

What Came Through

The format of this convoy was different from the usual. Instead of a column of light and medium vehicles, this time it was heavy transport with flatbeds, built to carry multi-tonne cargo:

  • 4 large trucks with flatbeds;
  • 2 refrigerated trucks;
  • 1 pickup;
  • 2 motorcycles — "for dessert," as the team joked.

And on those flatbeds — the cargo that made this convoy a record:

  • 1,000 CAT tourniquets, 7th generation — the gold standard of tactical medicine, the newest generation, for stopping massive bleeding in the limbs;
  • 44 portable power stations — critical equipment for unit operations in the field and for maintaining communications during power outages;
  • equipment, gear and other supplies for military units.

On the Road in +42°C

Fifteen hundred kilometres from Finland to the Ukrainian border is never easy. This time the route fell on days of extreme heat: the temperature inside the truck cabins reached +42°C. The drivers — ordinary people from Finland and Sweden who, instead of a summer holiday somewhere at a resort, chose to help Ukraine — got through this challenge too.

And at the border, they were expected. Together with the Initiative E+ team — representatives of three military units, who wanted to meet our Finnish-Swedish brothers-in-arms in person: to shake hands, to talk, to collect the keys and the equipment. Another unit came for its truck the next morning. The same handshakes, the same eye contact, the same short, precise conversations that carry years of shared work behind them.

"We Stand With You as You Fight"

Behind these figures — and behind this 38.5-tonne record — are specific people. Karavanen till Ukraina is a team that keeps repeating one simple sentence: "We stand shoulder to shoulder with you as you fight for your country against our common enemy."

And they back that sentence up not with loud statements, but with action. Thousands of kilometres of road. Years in which they've kept coming to Ukraine without skipping a season. Real trust, built through dozens of shared convoys, shared logistical puzzles, and shared decisions made under pressure.

Now their tally includes another 38.5 tonnes, already on their way to places where a single tourniquet can save a life, and a single power station can keep a unit's communications and operations running.

What This Means for Us

Setting a record in tonnes is, of course, gratifying. But the real value of this convoy is something else. It's the fact that after three years of war, our Finnish-Swedish partners aren't tiring. That the scale of their support is growing. That they're bringing exactly what Ukrainian units need — not just whatever they happened to collect.

This is what real partnership looks like. Not in loud words, but in concrete deeds. In thousands of kilometres of road. In 38 tonnes of aid on wheels. And in the unchanging "We stand with you."

Thank you, Karavanen till Ukraina — for your trust, your support, and for a friendship measured in real deeds.
